Charity Work in Vietnam
Charity Work in Vietnam
Charity projects in Vietnam are wide-ranging and give ample opportunity to those desiring to contribute their talents and funds to a worthwhile cause. During the 60’s and 70’s Vietnam experienced the longest and bloodiest war since World War II. This tragic ordeal left one million dead and two million injured with six million refugees and over a million orphans. The scars from this war have remained unhealed through the generations. While the lifestyle of the Vietnamese people has improved there is still a huge gap between the rich and the poor. The well-being of women and children is still being hampered by the wide-spread gender discrimination.
Many foundations have been established to encourage the self confidence and strengthen the health of the Vietnamese children. One of which is the Kianh Foundation Charity responsible for helping children through the Hoi An Orphanage. Their mission statement is “To improve the health, education and quality of life for children at Hoi An Orphanage by working with the people of Vietnam.” On their list of contributions are surgeries for children with a wide range of conditions, some life threatening. They provide physiotherapy to ensure the children are able to heal and function as fully as possible.
These are only a couple of the myriad of services and training of staff that this charity provides. After their bodies are healed, vocational and life-skills training available set these young people on the path to independence and a new-found prosperity.
Another Vietnamese charity is the Rose Charities Vietnam Chapter. Among the activities this charity foundation provides are education, healthcare, rehabilitation, poverty-reduction and micro-credit financing. One project is to fund a proposal that teaches the blind to use the Braille language and basic craftwork skills to make a living. Operation Smile is an active charity work in Vietnam and solicits volunteers to repair childhood facial deformities and at the same time build public and private partnerships to provide sustained healthcare systems for Vietnamese children and families.
Vietnamese charity work offers the volunteer or donor many options as to where to put your money or talents. Now the United States is Vietnam’s main trading partner and there is increasing foreign investment. With all this improvement the healing is slow and may have to continue for generations to come.
